Why Should Christians Consider Head Covering?
Beginning Questions
Section titled “Beginning Questions”-
Why would Christian women wear head coverings? This practice is taught in the New Testament. Sure, that topic probably hasn’t come up lately in your pastor’s sermon. But God’s instructions about head covering are worth a read.

It must be just a local custom for a unique situation in the Bible, right? Scripture actually provides universal reasons for head covering, as well as describing the universal practice of head covering (before some churches stopped practicing it.)
-
But it was just an ancient practice that died out with ancient culture, right? Time to check the history books! It’s well-documented that Christianity has been practicing head covering for 2000 years, and that it generally went out-of-favor only within the last 150 years.

I can’t see how a piece of cloth isn’t really that important. It’s not, compared to many other truths in Scripture. But… biblically, head covering is not about the piece of cloth anyway. A symbol (like a wedding ring) is something physical that points to spiritual truths. Most Christians are used to other symbolic practices like baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The value of head covering is in the spiritual truths that it symbolizes.
